Government pressed on 'Product of Canada' label

Les deux représentants on demandé au gouvernement de réviser leurs position au sujet de l’étiquetage des produits alimentaires canadiens.
In an article on the www.feedstuffs.com web site, Mr. Ian Elliott writes: "Member of Parliament Andre Bellavance (Richmond - Arthabaska, BQ) asked the government Tuesday when it is going to withdraw the 98% rule. "Every time we ask the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food about the 'Product of Canada' label, his minister of state replies with the same nonsense. Since he says he is continuing to listen, let him really do so and withdraw the ridiculous standard of 98%, as requested again yesterday by processors," Bellevance said in the House of Commons.
Jean-Pierre Blackburn, the government's Minister of State (Agriculture), acknowledged that he and his officials are talking to industry about difficulties they may have with the 'Product of Canada' regime. Blackburn said stakeholders from the food processing industry met and raised issues about the labeling. He said he plans to hold a follow-up meeting."
