BuyFromTheFarm.ca provides an information link in the direct from the farm to consumer marketing channel. Our purpose is to provide the best information, accessible in the most flexible manner, to the consumer who wishes to purchase products directly from the farm, or who wishes to support other businesses who do so. This is a Partnership between BuyFromTheFarm.ca and the farms and businesses who list with us.
We recognize our place in this channel. Our success is wedded to the success of our Partners, and the contribution we make to that success. Thus we will continue to improve both the information we present, and the way the consumer can find our site useful.
BuyFromTheFarm.ca was designed with these goals:
- Flexible Search Capabilities
- BuyFromTheFarm has site wide keyward search capabilities using the 'Search' function at the bottom of every page. In addition, all listings can be refined by various criteria, including 'Province', Product' and 'Listing Type'. Lists can also be sorted according to a number of criteria.
- Maps
- Every Partners Listing and every Event Listing is linked to a street map from Google Maps to show the location of the farm, business or event. This will aid the consumer who is planning a trip, making it much easier to find.
- Personal Contact Forms
- We do not publish email addresses. Each registered user will have a personal contact for which may be used by the consumer to contact them directly. Our servers will send the message on behalf of the user concealing the partners email address.
- Support for both official languages
- BuyFromTheFarm.ca is designed to support both english- and french-speaking users equally. Translation of the text shown in menu items, help text and search terms is about 75% complete at this writing, and we hope to have the fully bilingual site active by mid-July.
The contact forms can only be accessed by a registered user. Users can be contacted by clicking on their user name in the created by signature at the bottom of the submitted content you are looking at. You will need to provide a valid Email address.
If we tested every recipe, we would all be overweight!
We rely on the contributors' good taste, and we check the recipe for grammar, clarity and spelling before allowing it to be posted. If we make changes, the contributor is often contacted to review the changes before we approve the recipe.
Registered users are able to post comments on each recipe, if they wish to sing its praises, or to offer suggestions for changes. If you do try a recipe, please take the time to let people know what you thought of it.
If you have a favourite recipe, please submit it, as long as its ingredients include locally available items.

To help your potential clients find you, we have incorporated a Google map feature. This feature requires you to provide your address, city/town/county, province and postal code. This is the same information that you were asked for in your profile settings. In some cases, the map may not place your coordinates properly. In that case you may choose to enter the latitude and longitude manually.
If you encounter a problem, send us a message using our contact form, or phone us at 613-389-8368.
To create a listing you must have registered as a user. When you are logged in, you will find a User Functions block on the left side. Click on List with BuyFromTheFarm.ca and follow the instructions.
If you encounter a problem, send us a message using our contact form, or phone us at 613-389-8368.
Becoming a user is simple. The first step is to register at http://buyfromthefarm.ca/user/register, or click on the Register link at the top of the menu on the left.
You will be asked for a user name, your email address, and a password which you must enter twice. Although you are logged in directly, we ask that you confirm your email address. You will receive a confirmation email with a one time link that will bring you to a page where you can edit your profile. When you receive this email, please click on the link provided to confirm that you have received it.
Editing your profile: You will be asked for your street, address, postal code. This information is optional, but useful for mapping and filtering. The only required field is Province, so we can determine the use of the site across the country.
There are several ways to find producers, through refined search. A good place to start is the listings; producer subsection.
Once there You will see three selections:
- Select province: This allows you to narrow your the listings geographically
- Select product: Allows you to refine your listings by desired products. You can select multiple products by holding down the [control] key while clicking on the desired products
- Select season: Season selection is to provide our producers a way of indicating when during the year they have product available. Unless you wish to speak to someone out of season, we recommend that you use the current month to limit your selection to those listings which have indicated that they have product available. Please note that if a farm produces several products over several months, we rely on your common sense not to expect to find fresh corn in April!
Click on the [submit] button on the right side of the page.
You can sort the filtered results further by clicking on Town. This sorts the list by town.
